He’s asking $1,695. I offered him $500 and he countered with $900 and sent these pictures. Thoughts? I’d have to bring a trailer and a shovel.
The Plan: Put the cab on the frame of the Vic.

$900 is a great price, if that thing runs and drives. I’d honestly hate to see a 4x4 crew cab stick shift get pulled apart. I’d swap a better interior in, and drive it as-is.

I hear you and I love having your perspective in these important philosophical discussions! But the bed is beaten! Seriously though, wouldn't that cab be cool on the Vic chassis? Way more fun and exciting to me than an old f-100...

I have asked him what the status is on the engine.

Sad, that was a pretty sharp rig when it was new.

With that mileage that 6.9 has tapered cylinders and will probably guzzle a quart of engine oil every 500 miles.
Edit: and the glow plug controller is most certainly not working.

$900 for a running vehicle that doesn’t have to get smogged? Do it.

Farm truck, looks like. It looks really thrashed to me. I’d think it’s done for actual intended use. My inclination is to hold forth at $600. It’s about 95 miles from here, so I need my pal to help me go and retrieve it with his trailer. So I’ll probably be like a hundo in fuel to go and fetch it.

This is being an interesting discussion for me because of guys from Indiana and Illinois who for them, this truck is a survivor . But I think mechanically, it has to be almost useless. And note the condition of the bed...
My plan is to do a body swap and put the cab on a 2010 Crown Vic chassis. The more I think on it, the more I like the plan.
![]() 01/29/2020 at 17:44 |

I don’t know yet if it does run. I have inquired as to the status of the engine.

Will you translate this into something I can comprehend, please? (I’m a little slow...)
![]() 01/29/2020 at 17:47 |

I think you have a good strategy. It looks a millimeter away from scrap now, so people won’t be lining up for it. Would have been a pretty thing in those colors and configuration when new, and fairly rare, too. Someone used it up.
![]() 01/29/2020 at 17:50 |

I think it’s about $500 away from scrap, at most. I might go $600 because I’m a nice guy and in hopes of maybe getting a couple hundo for a transfer case or something. Again, the plan is to put the cab on the Vic chassis and part or scrap the rest. And a big Knack box behind the cab as a trunk. Even the cab needs to be completely gutted.

Yes, but that is an F350 with a diesel. It may be slow, but it’s a manual diesel 1 ton. Desecrating that truck with Crown Vic parts is a crime against humanity. Provided it’s running and driving, that would make a killer work truck for someone needing a cheap truck.
![]() 01/29/2020 at 18:18 |

Does that cab fit on a Vic chassis? Vics are big but I don’t think they are crew cab F3 50 big.
![]() 01/29/2020 at 18:21 |

Inspect it closely, I know old PU cabs have structurally important areas where they can rust (corners, I think). Sou nds like a project to keep one busy for awhile :)

It would be, but instead this truck just needs a fresher interior, and a flatbed.

An F100 is a lot smaller than an F350.

It’s a NON-turbo diesel. It was mechanically useless when it was new.

I realize that. I don’t imagine the frames were appreciably different in width though. Could be wrong...

Around here it’d be sold for asking in about 15 minutes and by the end of the week have a rattle-can paint job (either flat black or camo, depending on the buyer) and either some awful 20 inch wheels or a lift kit and awful 18 inch wheels.
Yes, I have seen lifted crew cab duallies. It’s obscene.
Edit: and be belching black smoke, potentially with a sticker of the engine’s manufacturer in the window; I’ve give it another week to have stacks through the bed.
![]() 01/29/2020 at 20:21 |

you could probably get a new bed for cheap money from a utility box installation company. dont tear that truck apart.

I’d just be concerned with roadworthiness - don’t want it to crumple like an empty beer can if it hits a bump the wrong way.

Yes, do it. And while you’re at it, put the Vic on the frame of the truck.

Why the frame swap? Have you confirmed that the frame on this one is toast/rusted
? Ford had issues with the frames on these until sometime in 1984 model year. 1985s and 1986s have always been thought to be pretty safe. If you were to swap frames I would be looking at finding a wrecked 1990s crew cab or even a Ford Exc
ursion
with a 7.3 and doing a swap that way.

That truck is so haggard it’s cool. For $900, I say go for it.
Ad says it runs great, it probably burns a quart of oil every hundred miles though
![]() 01/30/2020 at 01:19 |

With enough welding, length would be a non issue, I say it’s a good plan if you can get the price you want.
![]() 01/30/2020 at 06:59 |

The bed is fine, it just needs a new fender.
Seriously, destroying a cool old truck like that is just a waste.

Na they were plenty useful, they just can’t be used quickly.

As much as I love that patina, it’d be hard to spend $900 on that thing considering how much more it’s going to need. However, if you can score it for $500 and it runs, I’d clean it up and work on the chassis and suspension while searching for a 12v Cummins or turbo Powerstroke to swap in. That truck on a lift with some big tires would look so cool with the patina.
Bull Nose FTW!

Wait... What happened to the ranger?
![]() 01/30/2020 at 13:04 |
|
The 4.6L V8 is four feet wide, and the Ranger’s engine bay is three feet wide. Unless I want to use the frame rails for the exhaust, it’s an extremely difficult swap. So now I have this low-mileage beater Vic. That my wife is now encouraging me to enjoy, because the alternative is a giant body swapping project that I do not have an adequate facility to support. Not much spare time, either...
![]() 01/31/2020 at 13:13 |

That’s kinda what I thought when you bought the Vic. Do you still have the ranger, or is it gone?
![]() 01/31/2020 at 14:23 |
|
The Ranger is gone. I brokered a sale. Swapping a 302 into a Ranger is a fairly common, fairly doable swap. I bought the Vic totally on impulse because it was such low mileage and only $1300. Drives great, passed smog. Did you see my post about paint scheme?
Thanks for asking.
